Safety Considerations:
Lint and additional debris from animals and birds can build up in your clothes dryer vent and may cause your dryer to exhaust at less than optimum efficiency. This creates potentially hazardous conditions including the possibility of exhaust fires. Additionally, with gas dryers, carbon monoxide intrusion is a possibility. If a gas clothes dryer is improperly vented or the exhaust duct itself is blocked by lint or debris, carbon monoxide can be forced back into your living space.
When you consider that lint is one of the most flammable substances in your home you quickly come to understand the dangers that lie in those areas where lint is allowed to collect in mass. Add heat and you have a potential fire. If the exhaust is blocked and your dryer is having to work harder to get your clothes dries or having to be repeatedly turned on again and again to dry clothes then the motor is heating up beyond normal. This is one way the heat is distributed to the lint that can get trapped in the vent. When these circumstances line up and ignite, fire ensues.
The good news is this situation is easily avoidable with proper yearly inspections and maintenance. The cost is minimal once you consider the cost of a fire in your home.
Chimney products and installs beyond the yearly maintenance are easy when you use Basic Chimney Sweep & Repair as your service provider.
